***UPDATE-Driver who struck and killed Adam & Matt Bullard facing two felony counts of automobile homicide***

On April 9, Adam & Matt Bullard were participating in the annual Spring Tour of St. George ride when a driver, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, struck and killed the brothers. Their sons, who were also participating in the ride, were trailing behind them when their fathers were struck.

On Monday, May 9, both families traveled to St. George, Utah for a preliminary hearing that would end in the driver facing two second-degree felony counts of automobile homicide, criminal negligence, DUI (alcohol/drugs), and two third-degree felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

The driver told the responding officers she had several health issues and needed medical attention. The report filed by law enforcement also says she claimed she did not see the two cyclists. A certified drug recognition expert testified at the hearing that the driver failed various sobriety tests performed at the scene, even after allowing the defendant to repeat some of the tests. Several substances were found in the defendant’s system, including clonazepam, benzodiazepine, butalbital, sertraline, and duloxetine.

The case is schedule for a review hearing to address bail that will take place remotely on May 25. The defendant remains in custody without bail.

Steve Herrera, the owner of The Cyclery Bike Shop, along with the support of Sand Sports Brothers and our cycling community, has helped to raise over $100,000 for the families of Adam and Matt Bullard.
